Mid Term Review of the Community Benefits Sharing Pilot associated with the Tina River Hydropower Project, Solomon Islands

The Tina River Hydropower Project (TRHP) aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the Solomon Islands by constructing a 15-megawatt hydro power plant that will increase the amount of renewable energy in the Honiara national grid.
It is the first Public Private Partnership in the Solomon Islands used to deliver a major infrastructure project.
Financing has come from a mix of grants and loans, with funders including the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, The World Bank, The Government of Australia, Green Climate Fund, Korea-EX-IM Economic Development Cooperation Fund and the Asian Development Bank.

We were engaged by the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification in the Solomon Islands to conduct a Mid Term Review of the Community Benefits Sharing Pilot (CBSP) associated with the TRHP.
The CBSP involved establishment of a community benefits fund, early power and water infrastructure initiatives, and human resource development.
The Mid Term Review objectives included examining implementation progress, making recommendations for adjustment, as well as reviewing the project strategy and its risk to sustainability.

We’ve helped Lendlease measure the global social value from their shared partnerships and community investments across multiple financial years. Working together with Think Impact, we designed and implemented a methodology for tracking Lendlease’s progress against a social value target from their activities in Australia, Americas, Asia and Europe operating regions.
